Happy Friend's Day

So today is Valentine's day, which is actually called Friend's Day (Ystävänpäivä) in my country.
Friend's Day is more about remembering all your friends, not just your boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever.
And I prefer it this way, cause friends are a wonderful thing and deserve to be celebrated too.

And this way singles don't need to feel left out.

So Happy Friend's Day or Valentine's Day to all my dA friends!

I'm so happy I've made some amazing friends here who support me in many ways. It means a lot to me!
I'd love to hear how this day is celebrated in other countries?

Also thanks a million for all the birthday wishes and gifts I got last month!
You are all amazing!

Sorry for my inactivity in dA lately, and for all the unanswered messages! I'll try to get to them asap.
I haven't even done almost any photography lately. I've just been trying to do many life changes lately and had a lot on my mind.
But I won't bore you with that.

Just know that I aprreciate all your comments and support even though it may not always seem like it.

I did go to a cat show last month and got some photos from there I wanna share, but I've been to lazy to edit and submit them.
But they will get posted at some point I promise.

I just want to wish all my da friends, watchers and anyone who happens to read this a very Merry Christmas!
I hope you have a relaxing time with your loved ones.

My holidays have been relaxing so far. Earlier this week I got to meet some lovely relatives I hadn't seen in too long a time. Today and tomorrow I'm just enjoying together with my significant other and our kitties.

Presents have been opened, we do that on Christmas Eve in here. In a bit I'm gonna enjoy a glass of wine and a good movie.

Christmas Raffle - Win Points! CLOSED

I hope you are all doing well today.
I am fine, I can't believe it's only 1 week till christmas eve!

I went to see The Hobbit last night, which was awesome!

And what has recently made me very happy, is the fact that I've been getting new watchers on a much faster pace than before.
I guess that has to mean I am doing something right, improving with my photography?

Still no photos of leopard cubs

Hey all!

I hope everyone is well!

I visited the Helsinki zoo again yesterday and had a great time. Although sadly I still didn't get any shots of the three snow leopard cubs. On my last visit I didn't get to see them and was hoping this time they would come out of their nest, but they didn't, I didn't even see a glimpse of them.

But I did get to see the female tiger and the lynx right on their feeding time, and got some nice shots of them!

And the male tiger was so lovely and posed amazingly for photos again! Also there were almost no other visitors, so didn't have to worry about crowds. So I'm happy I went!
I'll start posting the photos soon.

Trip to the Zoo

Today I FINALLY made a trip to the Helsinki Zoo, which I've been wanting to do for so long, but something always came up in the way. I had a great day, I spent over 6 hours in the Zoo. I took loads of photos, and some of them even turned pretty decent.

I liked all the animals but my favourite was definately the Red Panda, I so fell in love with that animal.

The Big Cats and Lynxes were very cool too. And I learned they currently have 3 snow leopard cubs in the Zoo, 2 and half months old now. But they are still mostly in their nest, so I couldn't see them. I will have to make a new trip there later this Fall when the cubs are older and coming out of their nest. I really want to see them.

It started raining at one time, even though the forecast promised it wouldn't.

And I think I may have caught a cold walking in the rain, cause now I have a headache and feel like my temperature is rising. But despite that I'm still happy I went. It was worth it.

I'm not sure will I post any pictures today yet, I'm kinda exhausted. But if not today I will tomorrow at least. Expect a lot of them!

New lens, lots of new photos

Yeah, I got my new lens tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD last week and I've been photographing more than ever.
Been going outside everyday to take pics and I think I've taken more photos in the past week than the whole summer before.
I'm loving the lens, although ofcourse it has it's limitations. It works great on a sunny day but when it's a bit darker the aperture just isn't enough and can't get sharp pics.
But I think it's great lens considering what it costs. And it does give me so much more opportunities with photography now that I can zoom.
Like shooting insects and animals and better close-ups of my cats. So yeah I'm happy.

I was gonna make a trip to the Zoo today, but sadly that has been postponed due to a broken car.

Oh well, hopefully I'll be able to do that next week.
I'm very eager to try to photograph some zoo animals, although I have no idea how "photographer friendly" the zoo is.

Also, I realized it has now been a little over a year since I joined dA.
I have over 10 000 pageviews and 207 watchers.

It makes me very happy and I want to say thank you to all of you!

I'm thinking about maybe doing some kind of thank you feature for my watchers but that remains to be seen.

I think I've improved as a photographer over the year quite a lot, at least I've learned a lot! But I still consider myself a complete beginner.

What do you think, has my photos gotten any better?

Awesomeness

Just a quick update, cause I haven't wrote a personal journal in a long time.

Yesterday went to Norah Jones' concert in Pori Jazz Festival in Finland. I've been a fan of hers for a long time and was so happy to see her live, especially since we hardly ever get any world class artists coming to tour to such a small country like mine. The concert was wonderful!

I think it was the highlight of my summer. Besides yesterday, my summer has been quite boring, I don't have any holiday at all and I've been so busy and stressed out with my work, having a lot of trouble sleeping. I haven't been able to do any of the things I normally enjoy doing in summer, like swimming in the lake, being outdoors, enjoying the sun, spending time with family and friends etc... So yesterday was just so nice to relax and enjoy one of my favourite artists.

With great company and perfect weather too!

Another thing, I finally ordered myself my first zoom lens, which I talked about getting some months ago already, Tamron A005 SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD.

I'm hoping it will arrive this week in the mail (ordered from UK cause it's cheaper there than my super expensive country). I hope I'll be able to find some time to visit the Zoo then, and snap some shots of animals.

It's a contest for Traditional and Digital Art only, no photography.

Close-ups of Big Cats are accepted, such as close-ups of the face, eyes or even full body image/partial body image that is close and takes up most if not all of the "canvas".

Only Big Cats - meaning cats that can roar. (Tigers, lions, jaguars, leopards, cougars and cheetahs)
